Textiles A Level

This exciting course is designed to inspire the next generation of fashion and interior textile designers. You will be introduced to a wide variety of innovative techniques that push the boundaries of textile design.

Throughout the course you will explore screen printing, surface decoration and constructive textiles techniques; inspired by the world’s leading designers. You will also develop your drawing and designing skills, using both industry standard software and traditional techniques, and research contextual sources of historical and contemporary textile designers, fashion, art and design practitioners.

The course units will help you to explore a range of textile techniques and processes through a wide variety of media, to produce your own body of work, which you will have the opportunity to showcase at the College’s Summer Exhibition and Fashion Show.

An opportunity to visit galleries and exhibitions will inspire and inform your ideas.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework and practical examination.

What do I need?

You will need GCSEs with 2 grade 6s and 3 grade 5s including an Art and Design subject. A Level 2 Art qulificaton and portfolio may also be considered. Retaking GCSE English Language and Maths as part of your programme is required if you do not have Grade 4s.

Where can it take me?

You can progress to an exciting range of higher level courses, including Teaching. You could also consider a degree in a related subject, such as Textile Design, Fashion Design, Surface Pattern Design, and Costume Design.

Textiles A Level combines well with Art, Business, English, Media Studies and Photography.
