The purpose of the Level 1 introductory Diploma in Sport is to provide learners with an understanding of the key concepts and principles related to sport and fitness. The course is designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue a career in the sports industry or progress to higher levels of study. The course covers a range of topics including coaching, fitness training, assisting contributing to sporting events and keeping active and healthy. The qualification is aimed at learners who are new to the sports industry or who have limited experience in the field. Ultimately, the course aims to prepare learners for employment or further study in the sports and fitness industry.
The course is assessed through coursework and compiling a portfolio of evidence, which may include presentations, practical observations or by video.
You will require grade 1 in English and Maths, alongside a successful interview. You will continue to study English and Maths at an appropriate level as part of your timetable.
You can progress to a Level 2 vocational course, such as in Sport.
You could consider a junior position in the outdoor and /or Sport & Active Leisure sectors, although further training is advisable. Roles could include Leisure Assistant, Recreation Assistant, Receptionist, Administrator or Assistant Coach.
