The course will introduce you to the necessary practical skills and knowledge that are required for a successful career in the public sector. It also provides valuable life skills and knowledge, that can be applied to many career paths. To develop these skills, you will be involved in a variety of practical activities and written based assessments and events, and will experience a range of guest speakers.
You will be expected to wear Public Service uniform each day in College and take part in formal parades, drill training and will gain a wide range of skills. You will have to complete 30 hours work experience in a relevant career setting.
The awarding body for this course is NCFE.
The course is assessed through coursework. This will include regular practical assessment opportunities involving teamwork, peer assessment and outdoor activities. It will also include a mixture of presentations, reports, group discussions, timed assessments and other written and in-class assessments.
You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English, and Maths. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.
You can progress to a Level 3 vocational course, including Public Services.
This course will prepare you for direct employment into the public sector and may be suitable for the following roles Non-Commissioned Service in the Armed Forces, Fire & Rescue, Prison Officer, Border Force Assistant Officer, Neighbourhood Officer, Local Authority Administrator and a variety of positions in the NHS.
