If you do, then this course is the first step into a successful career in this exciting industry and will introduce you to Employability, Food Safety and Health & Safety Awareness within Catering.
You will look at the growing need for special diets and the increased popularity of healthier foods, while learning how to prepare and cook food in a variety of ways, including boiling, poaching, steaming, stewing, baking, roasting, grilling and frying.
You will also have the opportunity to prepare cold food and find out more about the regeneration of pre-prepared food.
All students are expected to complete a 1 week industry work experience placement.
This course is assessed through a combination of assignment work, kitchen assessments and theory question papers.
You will need to complete a Literacy and Numeracy test plus a satisfactory interview. You will also need to have commitment and enthusiasm.
You can progress to a Level 2 vocational course, including in Professional Cookery and Professional Patisserie & Confectionery
Equipment and uniform will be required for practical lessons. A uniform will also be required for the weekly Bistro placement.
