The Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy Level 1 has been designed to introduce you to a range of practical skills, from across the Hair and Beauty industries. This course will develop your confidence and build on basic hair and beauty skills to support possible progression on to Level 2 courses.
Throughout this qualification, you will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult and perform a range of treatments. You will also develop your communication, customer service and commercial skills, all of which are highly valued by employers. Problem solving, team working and research skills will also be developed.

The course also includes enrichment opportunities (additional to
your qualification) to enhance skills, and further prepare you for the next
step. These include opportunities to take part in tasters for Level 2 treatments and workshops from industry speakers.
Work experience is a compulsory element of the course and will give you a realistic experience of working in the industry alongside your studies
The course is assessed through assessments for all practical units and you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence. The evidence in the portfolio may take the following forms including; observed work, witness statements, audio-visual media, evidence of prior learning or attainment, written questions, oral questions, assignments and case studies.
You will require Grade 2 in English and Maths, alongside a successful interview.
You will continue to study English and Maths at an appropriate level as part of your curriculum timetable.
You can progress to a Level 2 vocational course in Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing. An Apprenticeship could also be considered.
You could progress to a junior position in the Beauty or Hairdressing industries in a salon, retail setting or self-employment, but further training would be advisable.
