The VTCT level 2 Diploma in Hair & Media make up studies qualification has been specifically designed to develop practical skills in make-up and some hairdressing elements, enabling you to perform these services as well as assist others within the industry.
The qualification covers the creative art of applying make up for every day, plus more advanced photographic make up skills and the ability to create a hair and make-up image based on a theme. Perfect if you see yourself starting out as a bridal hair and make-up artist, as an example.
The units will give an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge related to make up, hair, skin tanning and brow treatments.
Underpinning this qualification, learners will develop a sound knowledge of Health & Safety practices, Client care and communication and related Anatomy & Physiology.
This course is designed to be the first step towards being a make up artist. You will develop your practical expertise on clients.
During the course you will study the following units:
The course requires both practical and written assessments, with multiple-choice examinations. You will build a portfolio of your work, therefore, a camera will be required i.e. your mobile phone. Please be prepared to bring a phone charger with you.
You must have achieved a grade 3 or above in English and Maths. Art/crafts and science subjects would also be beneficial. A level 2 qualification in a related subject would also be accepted.
After this course you could progress to other related courses such as Level 3 Theatrical & Media Make-up, our Beauty Therapy route, Hairdressing, or Nail Technology.
The qualification will enable you to work for retail cosmetic companies, within the fashion and photography area, or be self-employed providing make up for specialist areas, such as Bridal and Prom.
You will be required to purchase a kit and wear a uniform. Work experience is an essential part of the course, the college can help with this.
