This course focuses on the balance of being a part time footballer, alongside academic studies. Students will complete a total of 7 units throughout the year. Each unit, different from the last, will give students a broad experience of the sporting industry, allowing you to make informed decisions on your progression.
Units include; Anatomy and Physiology, Participating in Sport, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and Injuries and Fitness.
As well as specific academic development, within the Football Academy you will also have specific football coaching sessions, where you will develop your technical and tactical understanding of the sport, in preparation for competitive games. Training and football matches are overseen by F.A qualified staff, ex professional and non-league players, allowing you to benefit from a wealth of experience.
As a Football Academy student, you will have the opportunity to play against a range of national football academies, showcasing your abilities and skills.
Assessment is by coursework including written reports, formal presentations, poster designs and presentations and leading practical sessions.
You will need to achieve at 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English, Maths and Science*. You will also need to be a keen and practising footballer that is currently playing for a football team.
You must engage in the keeping in touch sessions that are scheduled prior to enrolment.
College - you can progress to Level 3 Sports and Exercise Science* or you can progress onto another course with similar units, such as Public Services.
Assistant Sport Coach. You could consider a junior role within the health and fitness industry working as a fitness instructor, leisure attendant or activity leader.
*Sport specific coaching may also be required.
