ESOL Vocational Pathway

The aim of the ESOL Vocational level 1 course is to equip learners with the skills needed to live and work in the UK. We focus on developing skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing across 5 main areas - Travel, Retail, Education, Healthcare and Digital.
You will complete either ESOL level 1 or Functional Skills Level 1 English depending on the results of ongoing teacher assessment through the course.
Alongside English you will also study GCSE maths, Essential Digital skills at Level 1 and a compulsory work-related subject chosen from the following options:
- Health and Social care
- Business and Retail
- Hospitality and Catering
You will leave the course with a personal statement and CV to help you seek employment that matches your skills.

How will I be assessed?

The course will be assessed via ongoing teacher observation to ensure that you successfully meet the criteria in each of the 5 areas above.
If you demonstrate sufficient skill and commitment to study you will be entered for exams, which take place three times a year - December, March and July.

What do I need?

You must have successfully completed an ESOL course at Entry level 3, or be able to demonstrate language skills at this level in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing if no prior qualifications are evident.

Where can it take me?

This course will equip you with the language skills to seek employment and contribute actively to your community.
Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress onto our Level 2 academic course in ESOL or onto Level 1 and 2 courses across college.
