Dog Grooming Level 2

This course includes the City and Guilds Level 2 Dog Grooming Assistant Certificate as well as SEG Employability level 1 and SEG Progression level 1 which focus on theory and practical skills for this industry as well as additional qualifications to support employment after the course. During this introductory Dog Grooming course, you will undertake both theory and practical based lessons giving you knowledge and understanding to assist a professional dog groomer within a salon. Your practical will take place in our working salon which has been open to the public now for 4 years. This is a thriving, busy salon and we have a range of breeds for you to meet and groom.

Subjects you will study during the course will include preparing and grooming dogs, bathing and drying of dogs, basic trimming of a dog’s coat, maintaining cleanliness and biosecurity and introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behaviour of dogs. Attendance to a work placement within a dog grooming salon is highly encouraged to enhance further skills and learning. Students are required to purchase a Dog Grooming tunic, which is to be worn during practical work. Students are also required to purchase a professional scissor set. Further details of this will be given at enrolment. Due to the structure of this course, students will need to be well organised, motivated and maintain good attendance throughout.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a combination of a synoptic MCQ knowledge test, Awarding Body synoptic assignment and College based assignments and practical assessments.

What do I need?

You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English and Maths. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.

Where can it take me?

You can progress to a Level 3 Dog Grooming or Level 3 Animal Management qualification.

You could consider a junior position working as a Dog Grooming Assistant within a grooming salon, or other canine based establishments.

Additional information

Candidates will need to buy their own dog grooming uniform (all available through the Halazon website) as well as a professional scissor set. All instructions for this will be discussed in induction week.
