BTEC Applied Science is designed to provide a more practical, real-world approach to learning alongside a clearly explained and structured theoretical background. This will help you to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare you to meet the needs of employers as well as supporting your progression to university or an apprenticeship.
The course is equivalent to three ‘A’ levels and allows excellent progression to a wide range of Science degrees as well as apprenticeships.
Work experience is a key part of your course - you will need to find a minimum of 5 days over the course of the academic year to allow you to gain the knowledge of working within the Science industry; this could be at a Pharmacy, GP surgery, Pet Shop, Care home or somewhere else that is related to the Science sector. Your Personal Coach will help you write a plan for potential placements to help you gain this key skill.
The course is assessed through a combination of examinations, assessed assignments and practical work and coursework, including presentations and open book tests.
You will need to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including English, Maths and Science.
You can progress to a range of higher level courses, including a degree or HNC/D in Applied Sciences.
AN APPRENTICESHIP COULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED.
This course is ideal if you wish to pursue a career as a Biomedical Scientist, Microbiologist, Clinical Scientist or many roles within the Science or Health sectors.
