The BTEC L2 Applied Science course will allow you to gain further insight into the Science sector. This course provides a unique opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and techniques, essential for anyone interested in a career in Science. The course is delivered through a range of topics enabling you to understand how to research, develop and evaluate your ideas.
Work experience is a key part of your course - you will need to find a minimum of 5 days over the course of the academic year to allow you to gain the knowledge of working within the Science industry; this could be at a Pharmacy, GP surgery, Pet Shop, Care home or somewhere else that is related to the Science sector. Your Personal Coach will help you write a plan for potential placements to help you gain this key skill.
The course is assessed through coursework, including practical investigations, presentations and open book tests.
You will need to have achieved at least 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 and above, including English, Maths and Science. It is a requirement, however, that you retake GCSE English and Maths as part of your programme, if you do not have Grade 4. This will ensure you can progress to a Level 3 course or apprenticeship, and will improve your future employment prospects.
You can progress to a Level 3 vocational course, including Science, Engineering, Health & Social Care or IT.
AN APPRENTICESHIP COULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED.
You could consider a junior position as a Science Technician or Laboratory Assistant.
