Why study this course?

The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is the introductory level of the AAT Accounting Qualification. It is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career in accountancy or finance. It delivers a solid foundation which provides you with the basic knowledge of accounting, covering subjects such as: double-entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles, purchase, sales and general ledgers, computerised accounts and how to work effectively in finance.

Once you have completed this level successfully, you will be awarded the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.

This qualification could lead you to careers such as Accounts Administrator, Accounts Assistant, Purchase / Sales ledger clerk, Trainee Accountant.

All Assessments set and marked by AAT

How are students assessed?

Bookkeeping Transactions, Bookkeeping Controls, Elements of Costing and Using Accounting Software are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessment set and marked by AAT.
Work Effectively in Finance is assessed through a Synoptic Assessment, set towards the end of the qualification and marked by AAT. The Synoptic Assessment will also contain questions linked to Bookkeeping transactions, Bookkeeping Controls, and Elements of Costing.
The AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is subject to re-sit restrictions
The overall result for the qualification is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What will this qualification lead to?

The accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification can lead to employment such as: Accounts Administrator, Accounts Assistant, Accounts Payable Clerk, Purchases/Sales Ledger Clerk, Training Accounting Technician and Trainee Finance Assistant.

Entry requirements

We expect the prospective students to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above and these must include English Language and Maths. If necessary, you may be asked to do diagnostic assessment so that appropriate additional support may be arrange for you.

There is a substantial amount of written work to do in addition to the number work.

Monday – 6pm-9pm runs for 3 hours per week for 38 weeks – term time

Face to face (day time):

Tuesday 1:10pm–4:15pm runs of 38 weeks – term time.
