Halesowen lecturer wins top award

Halesowen College lecturer Ross Nicholls has won the Teacher of the Year Award in the Dudley Community Awards.

Ross was nominated for his commitment to his students, his innovative lessons and the support he gives students every day.

He teaches A Level Drama at College.

Ross, who is also Interim Head of Division for Humanities at Halesowen College, said: “I am delighted to receive this award and to be recognised in this way.

“I really enjoy working with creative students and supporting them to achieve their goals.”

Kathy Omahony, from Local IQ who co-ordinated the awards, added: “Ross is a very deserving winner of this award, he is supportive and committed to his students and the College.”

Dudley Community Awards were held at The Copthorne Hotel and were sponsored by the University of Worcester.

Ross’s award was sponsored by BRSK.

  • Diversity in the Community: Tina Boothroyd from Access in Dudley
  • Best Community Project or Group: Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer
  • Independent Trader of the Year: Broadmark Doors
  • Best Customer Service: Esther Alterations
  • Best Establishment or Bar: Il Michelangelos
  • Best Volunteer or Fundraiser of the Year: Sally Philpotts from The Mary Steven’s Hospice
  • Best Sports Team or Club of the Year: Team Pumpkin Boxing
  • New Business of the Year: Meadow View Mutts Secure Dog Field
  • Business of the Year: Dudley Canal and Tunnels Trust
  • Outstanding commitment to Dudley: Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer
