An apprenticeship is a paid job which offers hands-on work experience alongside off-the-job training. Apprenticeships help to shape the future of your business by bringing in fresh skills and developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. This provides an effective way to meet future skills demand, avoid external recruiting and improve staff retention.
How an apprenticeship works
Apprentices must spend at least 20% of their time on off-the-job training, however, they may need more than this if, for example, they need training in English and Maths. It is up to the employer and training provider to decide how the off the- job training is delivered. Apprenticeships include a formal assessment which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
Apprenticeship Levy
Apprenticeship Levy is an amount paid at a rate of 0.5% of an employer’s annual pay bill.
If you have an annual pay bill of over £3 million you will have to pay the Apprenticeship Levy
The allowance reduces the amount of Apprenticeship Levy you have to pay by £15,000 across the year.
