Why study this course?

If you are interested in becoming a Teaching Assistant within a school and not had any experience of this role previously, then this course is for you.  This qualification is to prepare you for further learning and training with suitable knowledge and understanding that everyone has the right to learn, to be safe and to be respected. Learners will be able to make sure that they are able to  provide children  with a safe and secure learning environment that promotes their health and well-being.

This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including: young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.

Learners can progress onto the British Values Level 1 and  Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

Course content

This course consists of completing 4 units, 1 mandatory and 3 optional.

The optional units cover:

  • Establishing safe personal boundaries in a learning environment
  • Recognising abuse in a learning environment
  • Investigating cyberbullying in a learning environment

A range of evidence such as posters, designing a leaflet or booklet, charts, or written assignments will be used to cover the criteria. All are internally marked which means no exam at the end!!

Entry requirements

There are no official entry requirements for this course just a desire to commence the journey to becoming a Teaching Assistant. If you have not already achieved English and Maths at level 1, you will need to also study these alongside. The use of, or access to, a laptop/computer/tablet is required to be able to complete aspects of the course.
