Why study this course?
An Access course is a nationally recognised alternative to A Levels and GCSEs for entry to British Universities and Colleges of Higher Education. The course offers excellent preparation for studying at a higher level and can increase your chances of future success. At Halesowen College our Access programme is specifically linked to Birmingham City University, Newman University and Wolverhampton University. However, as part of the SEG is recognised nationally, leaving you free to apply to the University of your choice. Even if you were to decide against progressing to higher education, we believe that you would find the course to be of great personal benefit.
As this Access to HE Diploma is studied via online distance learning, it is perfect for learners who have been out of education for an extended period and have other time constraints. What’s more, our students can begin working on their Access to HE Diploma from the moment of enrolment, whether that is in September or at any other point during the year.
The Access to HE Diploma (Health Sciences Professions) aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of health, biology, psychology and sociology, health professional practices and related fields. This course is designed to prepare students for Higher Education looking at entering careers in health, health sciences and related sectors. Students will acquire key knowledge, subject-specific skills, and transferable skills essential for success in these areas. The precise knowledge and skills will be dependent upon the choice of units taken.
The Access to HE (Health Science Professions) course is extremely useful. We have had learners progress into a range of courses on the following progression routes subject to the course entry requirements and application process.
Course content
All Diplomas are 60 credits, irrespective of the place, subject or mode of study. Of the 60 credits 45 must be from graded units concerned with academic subject content, with the remaining 15 credits to be achieved from ungraded units. In addition, all students must study a minimum of ten 3 credit units and at least one 9 or 6 credit unit, which may or may not be graded:
Once you have enrolled on your Access to, HE Diploma, the rest of the process is self-explanatory. Every student will be provided with a comprehensive set of interactive learning materials. Everything supplied is simple to access and easy to understand. As well as this, all learners have access to our expert assessors, who are there to provide you with guidance and support on submitted work throughout your studies.
The Diploma will be made up of a number of units and assignments. Once you have completed each assignment, you will submit it for marking. There are deadlines that must be met, but you can submit earlier should you wish to work more quickly. Your tutors will then grade your work and provide you with feedback. You should begin your next assignment by drawing on the feedback from the previous units.
As this is a distance learning programme, students will need to take full responsibility of their own study timetables. This means they will need to develop the discipline to work independently and learn how plan their time effectively. You will be provided with an Individual Learning Plan that outlines the submission deadlines for your assignments to keep you on track throughout your studies. An Access to HE Diploma can be completed within 18 months. However, most students complete their course within 6-12 months.
