The HNC in Animal Management provides a specialist work-related programme of study which covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the animal management sector and also offers specialist emphasis through the choice of specialist units.

Students who complete the Level 4 HNC may progress to the Level 5 HND in Animal Management (240 credits).

Animal Health and Welfare – 15 credits

Business and The Business Environment – 15 credits

Managing a Successful Research Project – 15 credits

All optional units 15 credits. Modules subject to change due to teaching staff specialisms.

Delivery

Full Time – Two days per week attendance required at College (1 Year)

  • Tutorial support provided by course leader
  • Access to Moodle VLE for access to learning resources
  • A range of resources, including books and journals from the Learning Resource Centre on Campus, as well as online learning materials will be available 
  • In class delivery involving lectures, practicals, seminars, group discussion and independent research

Assessment

Assignment work throughout the programme which may be assessed through practical assessments, seminars, presentations, dissertation and written assignments, graded a pass, merit or distinction.

Entry requirements

  • 48 UCAS points
  • GCSE grades A* to C (9-4) in Maths and English Language.
  • A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Animal Management or a similar discipline;
    or
  • An A Level profile preferably with a science focus; or
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate preferably science based

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications within the animal industry.

Any other information an applicant would need to know at this initial stage?

It is recommended that students supplement their course with voluntary work experience to develop their own skills and experience to enhance employment opportunities.  Other costs involved will be overalls / lab coat and wellington boots for practical activities and potential costs for trips.
