Why study this course?

This programme is aimed at those wanting to work in the creative media sector in industries as varied as film, TV or advertising.

The course provides you with underpinning knowledge of creative media techniques and theoretical frameworks to underpin these.

There is an emphasis on the development of skills, research skills, teamwork and practical skills such as editing, camera work, sound design and directing.

The course prepares students to progress to the Level for Higher National Diploma in Creative Media Production, as well as develop practical skills for camera work, editing and directing.

The course includes opportunities for students to undertake work experience in the creative media sector, and build upon understanding of the techniques used in film and video editing.

Delivery

Part Time available for 2025 entry:

Students attend College two days per week and participate in a range of activities, including lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials, group work, presentations, and practical activities.

Students are encouraged to use a range of resources, including books and journals from the Learning Resource Centre on Campus, as well as online learning materials. 

Assessment

You will engage in a range of learning and assessment styles and be encouraged to become effective and independent in researching and presenting work. Work based assignments will enable you to engage with your own practice and to share knowledge and expertise with others through activities such as group work and presentations.

Example modes of assessments include: written assignments, presentations, case studies, reflective portfolio entries, reflective journals, seminars, independent studies, self-evaluation/needs analysis, evaluations, literature critiques.

  • Level 3 Creative Media Production qualification, or similar
  • GCSE English and Maths graded C/4 or above
  • 48 UCAS Tariff points

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.
